Person-Centred
Care
Peacock Medicare believes passionately in treating each person as an individual, we are all unique even more so as we grow older.
We promote a holistic approach to caring for our residents, looking after the whole person which includes their emotional and social needs as well as their care needs. We feel it is important to focus on what they can do rather on what they can’t do.
Putting our residents at the centre of everything we do is our core value and our main philosophy of care.
Peacock Medicare’s care objectives for resident are:
- To be treated as an individual and experience person centred care.
- To have their dignity and privacy respected at all time.
- To be supported to maintain the maximum level on independence possible.
- To acknowledge their social, emotional and religious needs.
- To be involved in the development and review of their care plans.
- To be cared for in a safe, relaxed and comfortable environment with choice of activities suitable for their needs.
Care Home Facilities
Our homes offer a friendly and warm environment which includes spacious lounges, dining room, hairdressing facilities, activities tailored to individual preferences with quiet outdoor spaces to enjoy.
Residents requiring more intensive nursing will have access to 24 hour medical attention outside of a hospital environment.
Individualised Care Plans
On arrival the named nurse & key worker will meet with you and your next of kin/close relative/friend to discuss your care needs and lifestyle preferences. This assists staff to provide the care you require, detailing your preferences whether it is what foods and drinks you prefer, or what time you would like to retire or get up in the morning to name a few.
Having accurate information about you and your life, aids us in delivery of care and helps us to support you to settle into your new environment.
Your care plan will be tailored to your needs and will include the following:

Knowing You Better
On admission, your named nurse will provide you with our “Getting to Know You” document. It is important this is completed as it provides staff with the tools to deliver person-centred care. It also gives staff an insight into your life before coming to the home, your achievements, your family life, special anniversaries and other milestones. This document provides us with important information especially if you suffer from dementia as staff can then prompt you regarding this and reminisce with you about the things you like.
Knowing how you like to spend your time during the day, your routines, whether it is having a lie-in on a morning or an evening bath, watching the news or a specific soap which you never miss assists us to understand what support you require at these times.
Our activity coordinators will try and accommodate a particular interest or talent. A love of singing may lead to the development of a singing group or an afternoon concert, residents who like knitting may join in a knit and knatter group, or if your speciality is dominoes then we hold tournaments between the units. The more we know about you the more we can make your life as fulfilling, fun and active as we can.
Peter’s Life Story
Peter was admitted from another care home where he was constantly trying to leave. On his arrival to our nursing home staff sat with him and he told them he missed his garden and being outdoors, they then introduced him to a fellow resident who helped in the garden and he now goes out each day (weather permitting) and waters all the pots.
Our activity co-ordinator took him with her when she was picking the plants for the pots and flower beds and he picked the plants he used to have in his garden. This has given him a sense of purpose, he needed to feel as if he belonged and was still useful, it has become part of his daily routine and he doesn’t ask to go home anymore. Seeing how settled and contented Peter had become in his new home was a great relief to his family.
Making Our Home Your Home
It is important residents feel at home. To achieve this rooms can be personalised by bringing in personal items such as pictures, a piece of furniture or comfortable chair if the space allows it.
We will try to accommodate all requests but it is important to understand nursing staff require space to deliver care so some items may be limited.
